Larry Strickland is in his 25th year as the men's tennis coach and 24th at the helm of the women's program. 

Under his tutelage, several Bison have been recogized on the conference and national level. 2009 marked the 13th consecutive year that Howard had athletes receive all-academic honors by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the governing body of collegiate tennis. Additionally, Michele Gee was named to the All-MEAC second team that season for her efforts on the court.

In 2009, Michael Gee was named to the All-MEAC first team while Ashley Moore was named to the All-MEAC second team as a freshman.

He was named the MEAC Coach of the Year 10 times during his career.

Strickland was a professor at Howard for seven years (1992-99) and was a tennis instructor for the Joy of Sports Foundation (1997-00) and the Washington Tennis and Education Foundation (1992-96).

He graduated with a bachelor's degree in fine art and physical education from Wilmington College in 1969. Strickland is certified by the U.S. Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and the United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR).
