23 Days Into the Job

Kara Adams is a senior sports management major at Howard University. She works in the sports information office at HU and will blog, about once a week, about her summer internship at NASCAR.

23 days into the job and all is well...still! My days go by fast, sometimes so fast I feel like I don't get my work finished. I guess that's when the late hours take part and the work gets finished at home on my laptop i.e. this blog. Thus far I have successfully distributed my first newsletter titled "The Lucky 13", which was filled with bios of the 13 interns along with race information and updates.

In addition I have been planning and interviewing for our ‘Lunch and Learns'. The ‘Lunch and Learns' are luncheons with the NASCAR Diversity Internship Program interns and executives. I have had the pleasure of meeting with great leaders within NASCAR and ISC (International Speedway Incorporation). Today was a busy day in fact, aside from returning phone calls, planning lunch, continuing projects I got the once in a life time chance to sit down one on one with the VP of Human Resources, the Senior Director of Multicultural events and the President of NASCAR. Yes the President. I'm still in disbelief. I'm blessed to be in the position I'm in.

I am still enjoying my time with NASCAR and it's only looking up. A few days until my 21^st birthday and I'm in Daytona Beach interning with one of the top companies in the country. It doesn't get much better...well it might, it's technically still the beginning of a great summer. Who's to say, I might have a run in with Mr. France himself :-).

P.S. Did I mention I met Dr. Richard Lapchick last week and didn't even know it was him! After a 10 minute conversation and him very nonchalantly saying I should stay in touch with him, we said our farewells and I walked away optimistic about the future. The chairperson told ME to keep in touch... Google him, educate yourself; He's kind of a big deal!
