Tyson, David Receive Honors

 

Washington, DC (www.howard-bison.com) - Rodney Tyson and Julien David have been recognized for their contributions to the Howard University 37-36 overtime win over Norfolk State University this past Saturday. 

Tyson and David both received double honors.  A 5-9, 165-pound sophomore from Evans, GA, Tyson was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for tallying 156 yards on three kick returns.  Tyson had a big 100-yard return for a TD, equaling the school record held by former All American Harvey Reed.

Tyson was also named the College Football Performance Award National Kick Returner of the Week.

David, a 5-11, 205-pound junior safety from Coral Springs, FL, was named the College Sports Madness MEAC Defensive Player of the Week.  David recorded six tackles, forced a fumble that led to a score and blocked the potential game-tying PAT in OT that led to the Bison win.

The Madness identifies the highest impact players nationally and the top offensive and defensive player from each FCS.

Also cited for recognition by the MEAC were Joshua Matthews, Terrence Leffall and David.

Matthews, a 6-4, 307-pound junior guard from Bowman, SC, graded 98 percent on all blocking assignments, did not allow a sack and helped Howard pile up 222 yards on the ground while controlling the clock for over 34 minutes.

Leffall, a 5-10, 210-pound senior running back from Stone Mountain, GA, made his debut against Norfolk State after missing the first two games of the season, racking up 122 yards on 31 carries.

Tyson (KR, 5-9, 165, So., Evans, Ga.) returned three kickoffs for 156 yards, including a 100-yard return for a touchdown, to lead Howard to a 37-36 overtime win against Norfolk State.
