Short-Handed Bison Fall To Manhattan

Washington, DC-March 13---The Howard University women's lacrosse team gave a valiant effort, but a combination of a lack of depth and some unseasonably warm weather proved to be too much as the Lady Bison fell, 23-9 to Manhattan College in Greene Stadium.

Howard (1-3) had problems getting untracked early before Sakita Holley led a rally that closed the gap to a workable 14-5 margin at the half.

But the Lady Bison suited up only 14 players and that and the 70 degree temperatures on the turf began to take its toll in the second half as the Jaspers (1-4) found holes in the Howard defense for easy goals.

"They just weren't playing to win," explained Howard Coach Marguerite Lanaux, of her team's effort.  "Their communication skills were down.  There was a lot of individual play and not enough team play."

Added Shannon Morris, "We communicated terribly."  "We didn't want the win enough.  The team doesn't know how to win yet."

Holley led the team with four goals while Meagan Fitzgerald and Alanah Webb each rallied two goals.  Webb also had two assists.

Howard will try to get untracked when it plays at Central Connecticut State on Saturday.  The Lady Bison's next home game is Saturday, March 24 against Duquesne at 1 pm in Greene Stadium.
