McKee, Buckley Lead Coppin State To Win Boxscore
BALTIMORE, MD. -
Tywain McKee scored 14 of his team-high 22 points in the
second half and Mike Buckley came off the bench to tally 10 of his
14 to lead Coppin State to a 77-69 win over Howard University in a
Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's game at the Coppin
Center.
The Bison (3-16 overall, 1-5 in the MEAC) played one of the their
better halves of the season, shooting 54 percent and recording 10
assists on their 12 baskets. But they trailed 43-38 mostly
due to 13 first half turnovers.
With Kandi Mukole leading the way with eight of his 11 points
in the second half and Kyle Riley contributing 10, Howard was able
to stay close in the seesaw battle.
Then McKee, who became the all-time leading scorer in school
history and Buckley, combined to score 16 of the Eagles last 22
points. The Bison aided and abetted Coppin State's cause by
committing some costly turnovers that led to easy baskets.
The turnovers could be attributed to fatigue for the undermanned
Bison, who played without leading scorer Eugene Myatt (back injury)
and suited up only eight players.
Still the Bison battled but in the end the turnovers (25 for the
game) and fatigue proved to be too much to overcome.
Riley finished with career-highs in points with 22 on
8-of-14 shooting, and in assists with six while C.J. Prince
tallied 16 and Mukole contributed 11.
NEXT UP: Howard hosts North Carolina A&T
on Saturday at 4 pm.
