Howard Recruit Named Tri-Player of the Year

Howard University announces the signing of James Daniel, III to a national letter of intent for the upcoming season.  A 5-11 senior guard from Phoebus High School in the Tidewater area, Daniel was named Tri Player of the Year in the state of Virginia after finishing as the District's Number Two scorer.

Daniel has a reputation as a prolific scorer after averaging over 21 points per game this season.

"I'm happy for James that all his hard work paid off for him to win such a prestigious award," said an excited Howard Coach Kevin Nickelberry.  "James is one of the elite shooters in the country, but he has shown this year his ability to be a great leader for his team as well. He is the type of young man that represents what Howard University and this basketball program is all about going forward. He is a great student athlete with the character amd talent needed to help move this program forward".

Nickelberry, in his third season at the helm, hints that the signing of Daniel and others to come takes the program to another level.

"I'm excited for this program, with James and the other newcomers for next season, we have a chance to add 5 talented student athletes that immediately address our needs for depth, shooting and versatility."
