Howard Defeats Mount St. Mary's, 2-0
EMMITSBURG, MD. - Freshman Phillip Borde tallied two goals in the second half as the Howard men's soccer team defeated Mount St. Mary's, 2-0 Friday afternoon in Emmitsburg, Md. It was the first win of the season for HU.
The two teams took six shots apiece in the first half and the game was scoreless going into the break.
It was Borde who broke the scoreless draw with 18:46 left in regulation. The Mount (1-5) countered by firing off four consecutive shots, including a shot on goal by MSM's Chris Weeler at 74:22. Bison keeper Victor Thomas was there for the stop, adding his fourth save of the night. Borde later made it 2-0 in the 85th minute to seal the win for Howard.
HU (1-4) returns to action on Sept. 18 at 2 p.m., hosting Marist in the 2009 home opener at Greene Stadium.
