Howard Blanks University of the District of Columbia

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Ray Ekobena and Jamil Devers each scored a goal and recorded an assist to lead Howard University to a 4-0 win over the University of the District of Columbia in an exhibition match at Greene Stadium.

The Bison got on the board early when freshman Joseph Di Chiara (Ontario, Canada) scored on a penalty kick to make the score, 1-0.

Howard was able to get loose in the second half when Ekobena, a freshman from Brooklyn Park, MN, scored on an assist from Devers to make the score, 2-0.

Devers, a senior midfielder from Los Angeles, CA, then scored later unassisted to up the margin to 3-0.

Senior Matt Marshall, a defender from Atlanta, GA closed out the scoring after getting a nice feed Ekeban.

The Bison seemed to benefit from a 2-1 setback to Old Dominion on Saturday in an exhibition match by parlaying the leadership of their seniors, Marshall, Devers and the talents of their freshmen duo, Di Chiara and Ekobana.

"I was very pleased with the play of our seniors and their display of leadership," said Howard head coach Michael Lawrence.  "And both Ekobana and Di Chiara were outstanding.  We definitely have something to build on."

Howard closes out its exhibition on Friday in a match with Mary Washington at 7 pm in Greene Stadium.  The regular season gets underway on Wednesday, September 1 at 5 pm against American University in the opening round of the DC Cup at American.
