Strickland Named MEAC Coach of the Year; Four Bison Receive All-Conference Honors

NORFOLK, VA – Larry Strickland was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. All awards were voted on by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Strickland earned his second consecutive Coach of the Year honor after guiding Howard’s women’s program to a 10-8 overall record and a 5-0 sweep in conference play to garner the northern divisional title.  Strickland was also named the Coach of the Year on the men’s side after leading the Bison to a 4-0 finish in conference play and its first conference divisional title since 2008.

On the women’s side, Katelyn Stokes highlights the MEAC first team, while Brooke Hawthorne and Brittney Morgan received second team accolades. On the men’s side, Christopher Brown was named to the second team.

The 2011 MEAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championship begins with women’s play on Friday, April 15 at 8:30 a.m.  The women’s semi-final rounds start on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. followed by the men at Noon.  The Championship concludes on Sunday with the women’s final beginning at 9 a.m. followed by the men’s title match at Noon.
