WASHINGTON, D.C. - Howard swept Morgan State in a three-game series April 25-26 at Banneker Stadium. The Bison won a close 6-5 decision before blanking the Bears 13-0 in a doubleheader on day one. HU defeated MSU 9-7 in the finale on Sunday.

Howard improves to 4-4 in conference play and 15-26 overall while Morgan State falls to 12-9 (5-4 MEAC) with the losses.

In the opener, the score was knotted up at 5-5 in the bottom seventh when junior Courtney Young plated the game winning run for HU. The reigning MEAC Player of the Year went 2-4 with two runs. Freshman Rebecca Kirshner added a pair of hits while Lorae Robinson led the squad with three hits. Nicole Saez led the team in RBI with three.

Sophomore Jessica Hurston got the win after pitching 2.1 innings of relief. Hurston struck out three batters while giving up two hits and no runs.

Carly Martin pitched well in game two and went the complete distance, striking out four batters in five innings of work.

Young and Emily Johnson each homered for the Lady Bison. Young had a grand slam and finished with five RBI and two hits with two runs.

Johnson and Saez added three RBI apiece.

The Sunday finale saw MSU take an early 3-1 lead before HU tied things up in the second inning.

Saez's two run homer in the fifth gave the Bison a 5-3 in the fifth. Morgan State added a pair of runs in the top sixth, tying the score again but Howard got their bats going in the bottom of the inning. The Bison scored four runs on five hits, jumping out to a 9-5 lead.

The Bears staged a comeback by adding two runs in the seventh inning. It would not be enough, however, as Howard got the win and completed a season-sweep of MSU.

HU returns to action on Tuesday against conference foe Delaware State.
