Goins Historic Season Continues at NCAA Zone Championships

WASHINGTON, DC - Senior Ashley Goins (Silver Spring, MD) has put together a memorable season for the Lady Bison Swimming and Diving team.  The transfer from Rutgers University has vaulted her way into the Howard record books, showcasing her talents that catapulted her all the way to the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships.

This Friday and Saturday, Goins will be traveling to Annapolis to compete against the finest divers in the area.  Goins qualified for the Zone Championships with her senior day performance against VMI and Catholic University.  These were just two of the 14 victories that Goins recorded on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards this season.

In addition to these wins, Goins became the first Howard diver to compete at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championship meet and, in doing so, recorded eighth place honors on both the 1-meter and 3-meter board.  With her scores at the CCSA Championships, Goins hold both records for the University.  Goins was also named the CCSA Diver of the Week twice this season.

"It's been a great experience for me and I'm thrilled the season continues," said Goins.  "I'm glad I got to make the team better and this weekend is a big honor for me."

The NCAA Zone Diving Championships are divided into five specific regions across the country.  Howard University falls under Zone A, whose Zone Championships take place at the United States Naval Academy.  The top qualifiers from the Zone Championships move on to Austin, Texas for the NCAA Diving Championships at the University of Texas.

Anyone interested in attending the Naval Academy for the Diving Championships should contact the Howard University athletic department for more information.
