Goins Concludes Record-Breaking Season at NCAA Zone A Championships
After putting together a record-setting season as a member of the Lady Bison, Ashley Goins (Silver Spring, MD) concluded her Howard career in Annapolis, MD today at the NCAA Zone A Championships. Goins' qualification into the meet put Howard University in some very elite company with some of the best swimming and diving institutions on the east coast.
Goins finished 45th on the 1-meter board with a score of 168.70 and, one day earlier, placed 47th on 3-meter with a a score of 159.05.
"It was very exciting to witness Ashley compete on such a premiere stage," said volunteer diving coach Christy Smith. "Ashley put herself in position to succeed all season and putting her mark on this meet was a major accomplishment."
Goins became the first Howard diver to compete at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championship meet and, in doing so, recorded eighth place honors on both the 1-meter and 3-meter board.
With her scores at the CCSA Championships, Goins holds both records for the Lady Bison. Goins was also named the CCSA Diver of the Week twice this season, a feat never achieved by any diver at Howard.
"We are very proud of Ashley's accomplishments," added Smith. "She reached outside of her comfort zone and achieved great things to complement her efforts."
