Bison Excel During First Two Days of Patriot Invitational
The first two days of competition are in the books at the 2011 Patriot Invitational and the Howard University Bison are swimming very well against some of the best teams in the region. After the first 38 events, the team has recorded numerous season and personal best marks as well as 11 additions to the school's Top 10 list.
The highlights of the first two rounds include teammates Darell Hungerford (Clinton, MD) and Dexter Brown (Pearland, TX) earning spots in the consolation final in the men's 100 breaststroke. Hungerford's preliminary time of 1:00.21 was strong enough to seed him 11th and Brown's season-best mark of 1:00.52 seeded him 12th and solidified his name at the Top 10 list at sixth. At night, Hungerford set a new season best time of 1:00.08, placing him in 11th overall with Brown finishing 16th for the event.
Camille Dykes (Maplewood, MN) earned two final round swims on Friday evening. In her 400 individual medley, the sophomore swam her way into 23rd place with a time of 5:06.85. At night, Dykes used a great final four lengths to better her time from the morning session, 5:04.61, and placing her in 21st. Dykes also competed in the 100 breaststroke and fired a preliminary round time of 1:19.78. For the final round, Dykes went a season-best time of 1:19.53, earning 23rd place.
Her teammate, senior Lauren Anthony (Oakland, CA) also made her way into the final round of the 100 breaststroke on Friday evening. Anthony dropped two full seconds from her morning swim, finishing with a time of 1:34.22, and in 24th place.
On Thursday, the Bison were represented by junior Zadok Isaacs (Cantaro Village, Trinidad and Tobago) in the finals round. Competing in the 50 freestyle, Isaacs found himself in 24th place after his morning time of 22.05. With an incredibly tight field, Isaacs bolted his way into 22nd place on Thursday evening with a finals time of 22.07.
Tomorrow will be the third and final day of the Patriot Invitational. The meet will begin with the preliminary round at 10AM and conclude with the finals at 6PM.
