Lady Bison Take Down NC A&T at CCSA Duals
With seven premier universities gathered in Davidson, NC, the Howard Bison competed in their final regular season meet of 2011-2012. The Lady Bison faced off against Campbell, Georgia Southern, Liberty, North Carolina A&T, Radford and host Davidson. With a number of great swims, the Lady Bison took down NC A&T by a score of 133-84. The Howard women dropped each of the other five scored match-ups.
The Bison men only had to contest with the host Wildcats, but the reigning CCSA Conference Champions started fast and paced their way to a 174-97 drubbing of Howard.
The Lady Bison were led by sophomore Janai Ederaine (Corona, CA,) who enjoyed one of her strongest regular season meets in her college career. Ederaine notched the highest finishing spot for the Lady Bison in the 100 butterfly. Her season-best time of 1:02.38 was good for 13th place overall. She also took two 17th-place finishes, first in the 200 butterfly and later in the 100 freestyle. Her 100 freestyle time of 57.58 took down all competitors from Radford and NC A&T. Her teammate, junior E'lan Brewer (Lansing, MI) finished right behind Ederaine in 18th place with a time of 57.81.
Ederaine and Brewer teamed with freshman Caleah Gregoire (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago) and sophomore Ashley Douglas (Missouri City, TX) for the Lady Bison's best race of the afternoon. In the 400 freestyle relay, their time of 3:49.31 was good for 9th place, ahead of the Lady Aggies.
Other notable swims from the Howard women included Nandi Ross (Capital Heights, MD) and her 14th place finish in the 1000 freestyle at 12:00.52, scoring first place points against Radford and NC A&T. Douglas also took 16th place in the 50 freestyle with a 26.39 ahead of all NC A&T participants.
The Bison Men added some new season-best times with their swims against the Wildcats. Freshman Miles Hector (Omaha, NE) won his first race of 2012 and his fifth 1000 freestyle of the season with a 10:05.64. Hector also took second place in the 500 freestyle for the third straight Saturday with a 4:57.57.
Zadok Isaacs (Cantaro Village, Trinidad and Tobago) notched two impressive victories against the Davidson men. In the 50 freestyle, Isaacs 22.31 was good for first place. His next event, the 200 backstroke, saw the junior post a time of 2:01.16, surging away from the competition with more than 50 yards to go. Isaacs, along with Hector, notched the other second place finish for Howard, this one in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.93.
Isaacs led the men's 400 medley relay to a third place finish. Teamed with sophomore Darell Hungerford (Clinton, MD,) senior Steven Lott (Los Angeles, CA,) and freshman Dexter Brown (Pearland, TX) the men's time of 3:42.25, their fastest split in the event of the season.
The Bison will now transition to the postseason. The Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships will take place from February 16-18 in Athens, GA at the University of Georgia.
