Ashley Hodges Earns Berth to U.S. National Track and Field Championships

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Freshman Ashley Hodges (800m run) has earned a berth in the 2008 USA Track and Field junior national championship and will compete on June 20-22 in Columbus, Ohio. The meet will take place at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University.

"It's always great for our program to have a student-athlete represented at the U.S. Junior Championships," said head coach Michael Merritt. "This is the best in the world and you have to qualify to get there. I'm proud of and excited for Ashley. She has earned this opportunity."

Hodges qualified for the meet as a true first-year after taking eighth in the 800m at the Wake Forest Open, running a 2:12.44. That mark ranked fourth-highest in conference. Hodges later went on to finish eighth in the same event at the MEAC Outdoor Championships.

The California native will open up competition on Friday, June 22.
