Bison Open Up Outdoor Season at UNC Wilmington Seahawk Invite

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The HU track team opened up its outdoor season at the UNC Wilmington Seahawk Invite on March 13-14. The Lady Bison brought home four first-place finishes while the men's squad won gold in the 4x400m relay.

Sophomore Ashley Hodges took first in the 800 run (2:17.11). Jami Hardy was the runner-up after crossing the line in 2:18.89.

Hodges also won the 1500m run in 4:38.30. Hardy took home a fourth place finish in the same event (4:48.48).

Landria Buckley won the 100m hurdles (14.20) and Alexandria Lemonious was second in 14:50. Janelle Wallace had a top-10 finish for Howard in the same event after placing ninth in 16.23.

Lillian Daniels (1:11.95) and Azalia King (1:14.34) took eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 400m hurdles.

The women's 4x400m relay squad placed first in 3:53.56.

Chanel Bell (11.40m) and Norell Abernathy (8.50m) saw action in the shot put. Bell took fourth in the discus throw with a distance of 36.55m.

The men's team got a fourth and fifth place finish from Tochi Odocha (11.01) and Anthony Penny (11.02) in the 100m dash, respectively.

Brandon Carter was 10th in the 400m dash in 49.66 and Thurman Sanders was fourth in the 800m run (1:58.52). Richard Williams was fifth in the latter (1:59.29) and Rashard Nelson was eighth in the standings after finishing in 2:01.28. Kendall Frost wrapped up the team scoring for Howard in the 800m with a ninth place finish in 2:02.61.

Christopher Harrison (2:03.42), Dominick Dockery (2:09.88) and Andre Williams (2:10.78) also saw action in the 800m run.

Sanders took fourth in the 1500m run in 4:05.37 and Daniel Kinney was the top collegiate finisher in the 110m hurdles (14.21). Carnegie Tirado finished eighth in the latter after finishing in 15.40.

Hamadi Price won bronze in the 400m hurdles (56.78) and DeAndre Henderson was seventh in the same event in 58.23.

The men's 4x100m relay squad took third in 42.63 and the 4x400m relay won gold in 3:13.94.

Vaughn Holland and Benjamin Rosa jumped to sixth and seventh place finishes, respectively, in the men's high jump. Rosa went on to a third place finish in the triple jump (13.37m).

Howard is back in action next weekend at the Wake Forest Invite.
