Feb 16, 2009 Lady Bison Fifth, Men Ninth at MEAC ChampionshipLANDOVER, MD. - The Lady Bison track team placed fifth at the MEAC Indoor Championship, held at the PG Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Md., while the men's squad took ninth. Landria Buckley won bronze in the 60m hurdles in 8.50 and Alexandria Lemonious was fifth in the same event in 8.64. Lauren McNary took third in the 400m (54.48) and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship. The women's 4x400m relay squad (McNary, Brittany Stephens, Buckley, Jami Hardy) was fourth in 3:49.13. Hardy went on to finish sixth in the 800m run (2:16.63) and Ashley Hodges was eighth in 2:17.62.
Hodges took fourth in the mile run (5:09.76) and Hardy was seventh after crossing the line in 5:18.26. Hodges later won bronze in the 3000m run (10:35.06). Alexandria McKee grabbed two points for Howard in the high jump after leaping 1.6m (5'3"), good for a seventh place finish. The distance medley squad (Brittany Jackson, Stephens, Hardy, Tamila Myles) took seventh in 13:01.83. The Bison men got a third-place finish from Daniel Kinney in the 60m hurdles (7.96). Christopher Harrison placed fourth in the 400m dash in 49.13 and the 4x400m relay squad (Harrison, Richard Williams, Kinney, Lavernon Spivey) took fifth in 3:19.72. Williams later finished sixth in the 800m run (1:54.55). Thurman Sanders won gold in the mile run after crossing the line in 4:22.26 and grabbed a team point for HU after taking eighth in the 3000m run (9:05.45). Stephen Small-Warner was fifth in the long jump, leaping 7.23m. The men's distance medley squad (Rashard Nelson, Mikael LaRoche, Williams, Sanders) took fifth in 10:30.87. |
