Howard Blanks Coppin State in Volleyball Action

BALTIMORE, MD. - Howard made easy work of Coppin State on Sunday and swept the Eagles 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-17) in a MEAC matchup in Baltimore, Md.

The Bison played without the services of setter Grace DeMichelis and outside hitter Gazelle d'Artois, who ranks first on the team in total kills and kills per game.

Howard (11-14, 5-1 MEAC) got contributions from senior Janel James, who stepped up at the setter position and finished with 34 assists while adding five digs and two blocks on the defensive end.

Freshman Jiyana Brown had her first collegiate double-double, 13 kills and 11 digs, and classmate Gabrielle Martin chipped in 11 kills

Sophomore Nicole Brown added a match-high 12 digs.

Coppin State (0-18, 0-6 MEAC) got six kills from Brittany Arvin.

HU is back in action on Friday against Morgan State. First serve is slated for 7 pm in Burr Gymnasium.
