WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard volleyball team earned a No. 2 seed at the upcoming MEAC Championship, slated for Nov. 14-16 on the campus of Hampton University. HU finished 7-3 in conference play, marking their best league finish since 2001. "We're looking forward to the championships," Head Coach Orlando Larracuente said. "Getting the number two seed puts us in great position to navigate ourselves through the bracket" The Lady Bison won the tiebreaker over Delaware State in the northern division to earn the number two seed. Howard leads the conference in blocks (1.99 bps) and digs (12.79 dps) per set. Freshman Gabrielle Martin was a two-time MEAC Rookie of the Week recipient while sophomore Gazelle d'Artois recently garnered first team All-MEAC honors. "I feel good about this young team and the future of the program," Larracuente added. "It's been seven years since the program finished this high in conference," Only the top four teams in each division are eligible to compete for the conference title. Seedings are determined by overall conference records. Morgan State (2-8), Coppin State (0-10) and North Carolina A&T (2-6) have been eliminated from tournament play based on their MEAC record. Competition tips off on Friday, Nov. 14 with two noon matches. Maryland Eastern Shore (N1) will face off against No. 4 Norfolk State (S4) and South Carolina State (S2) will compete against Delaware State (N3).
