May 4, 2009 King Joins Lady Bison Recruiting Class for 2009WASHINGTON, D.C. - Howard head volleyball coach Orlando Larracuente announced the signing of setter Jasmine King (Rex, Ga./Chamblee H.S.) to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to join the Lady Bison for the 2009 season. "I am delighted to have added Jasmine to our program. I am looking forward to training her and watching her grow on and off the court as a Lady Bison," Larracuente said. A playmaker originally from Rex, Georgia, King played this past season for the Atlanta Boom Volleyball Institute - the same club squad as incoming Bison Taylor Montgomery. In 2008-09, King led Chamblee High School (Chamblee, Ga.) to an 8-1 area record and a 30-24 overall mark. King finished with 99 kills (0.9 kills per game), 101 aces (0.9 aces per game), 935 assists (8.5 assists per game), 27 blks and 206 digs during her senior campaign. King broke two records in just half a season at Chamblee. The rising freshman set the mark for most assists in a season and holds the county record for most assists per set (40). "Her familiarity with Taylor Montgomery should make for an easy transition to the college game for both players," Larracuente added. King is the fourth player from the Atlanta Boom Volleyball Institute to sign with Howard. "We now have four former members of the Atlanta Boom Volleyball Institute; I'm hoping this will be a plus in developing team chemistry," Larracuente said.
