Howard enters Saturday's contest with a 5-7 mark. The Lady Bison defeated Colgate 50-47 for its second straight win on Jan. 5 while Morgan State (4-8, 1-0 MEAC) defeated Coppin State 61-50 in its last time out on Jan 2.
Junior Zykia Brown had 17 points in the win over the Raiders while reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week Saadia Doyle added 13 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.
Corin Adams paced MSU with 25 points in the win over Coppin State. Brittany Noel added 14 points and Theresa Davis led the team in rebounds with six.

Scouting Morgan State
Morgan State is 4-8 with wins over North Carolina Central, Seton Hall, Murray State and Coppin State. Corin Adams is averaging a conference-high 18.3 points per game while Erin Hawkins adds 7.2 points per game. Theresa Davis is tops on the team with 5.6 rebounds per game.
The Bears are coached by Donald Beasley, who is in his fifth season at Morgan State. He has a 59-61 record in four years as a head coach.
Last Time Out
Howard closed out its non-conference schedule with a 50-47 win over Colgate on Jan. 5 at Cotterell Court.
Saadia Doyle pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds en route to her eighth double-double of the season. The freshman had 13 points and finished the game 5-of-9 from the field with two steals.
Zykia Brown finished with 17 points, the game-high, to go along with three rebounds and two assists.
Freshmen Tamoria Holmes (four points, three assists, two rebounds), Cheyenne Curley-Payne (four points, two assists), Nicole Deterville (four points, two rebounds) and Kara Smith (four points, four rebounds) all contributed off the bench as Howard led 18-13 in bench points.
The Bison offense got off to a quick start and Howard took a seven-point advantage at the break, 26-19.
Colgate (5-9), however, slowly gained momentum with an 8-2 run in the second half. The Raiders took its first lead of the game at 12:40 on a layup by Holly Havenstein, but the Bison quickly got things back in its favor by outscoring Colgate 6-2 over the next few minutes.
Freshman Saadia Doyle (5-11, F) has posted double-doubles in eight of 12 games this season, a feat that puts her 12th in the NCAA rankings. The Atlanta, Ga. native is averaging 15.8 points and 11.2 rebounds per outing and was named the MEAC Rookie of the Week three times this season.
Freshmen Nicole Deterville (6-1, F/C) and Portia Deterville (6-1, F/C) are the first set of twins to play under the Coach G era. Nicole and Portia join teammate Amanda Edwards (6-0, F) from Toronto, Canada and are mainstays in the Bison frontcourt.
Get ‘Em Next Year
Newcomers Jerelle Gorham and Cabria Johnson will sit out the 2009-10 season. Gorham is a 5-8 guard and Johnson is a 5-11 forward.
Zykia Brown was named the MEAC Player of the Week on Dec. 14 after posting 23 points and nine rebounds against George Mason. Saadia Doyle was named the MEAC Rookie of the Week three times this season (Dec. 17, Dec. 21 and Dec. 30).
Countdown to 1,000 Point Club
Zykia Brown is 65 points away from joining the 1,000 club. She would be the 15th player in women's basketball history to accomplish that feat.
Bison Ink Eight for 2009-10
Howard is one of the youngest squads in the nation with eight freshmen. Cheyenne Curley-Payne, Kara Smith, Cabria Johnson, Jerelle Gorham, Tamoria Holmes, Julee' O'Neal, Portia Deterville and Nicole Deterville were all welcomed to the Mecca this year.
The Lady Bison host Coppin State on Monday, Jan. 11. Game time against the Eagles is slated for 7 p.m. at Burr Gymnasium.
