Howard Women Open Season at Buffalo
This will be the first meeting between the Lady Bulls from the MAC Conference and the Lady Bison from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
The University at Buffalo is coming off a 7-23 season but returns its three top scorers, Kourtney Brown, Brittany Hedderson and Jessica Fortman. Brown is a 6-0 senior forward from Solon, OH, who led the team in scoring and rebounding with a double-double average of 17.8 and 11.6, respectively.
Hedderson is a 5-9 junior guard from Tecumseh, Ontario who was second on the team in scoring with 11.9 points per game while Fortman, a 5-9 senior forward from Ashland, KY, contributed 10.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per outing last season.
The Lady Bison, who finished 16-14, will counter with Saadia Doyle, Cheyenne Curley Payne, Kara Smith and Tamoria Holmes.
Doyle is a 5-11, red-shirt sophomore power forward who averaged a double-double of 16.6 points and 11.0 rebounds per game and was named the MEAC Rookie of the Year.
Curley-Payne is a 5-5 sophomore point guard who averaged 5.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.
Smith is a 6-0 sophomore forward from Chicago, IL, who averaged 5.0 points while Holmes, a 5-6 sophomore guard from Durham, NC, averaged almost 5 points per game.
NEXT UP: Howard will travel to Nashville TN to take on Vanderbilt University on Sunday at 2 pm. The Lady Bison will have little rest as they will host Radford University for their home opener on Thursday, November 18 at pm in Burr and Loyola of MD on Saturday, November 20 at 7 pm, making it four games in 8 days. The Lady Bulls will host Cleveland State on Monday at 7 pm.
