Comeback Falls Short; Lady Bison Drop Seventh Straight

BALTIMORE, MD – The Howard University women's basketball team finished its weekend MEAC slate with a 48-39 loss at Coppin State on Mon. Jan. 10. The Lady Bison are back in action on Sat.. Jan 16 when it hosts North Carolina A&T. The game is slated for 2 p.m.

Cheyenne Curley-Payne paced HU with 14 points – including 11 in the second half. Tomoria Holmes tallied 10 points for her second-straight double-digit scoring game.

In the second stint, Howard was trailing 36-22 midway through half. Highlighted by a Curley-Payne three-pointer, the Lady Bison rattled off 14 unanswered in a three-plus span to tie it at 36 all at the 7:23 mark.

The Lady Eagles answered three minutes later by going on a 9-0 run to push the spread to 45-36 with just over a minute left in regulation. HU was unable to recover from the deficit, however.

For Coppin State, Crystal Whittington finished with a team-high 13 points off the bench. Jeanie Manley tallied 11 points – including eight in the last 20. 

The Lady Bison will face North Carolina A&T on Sat. Jan. 16 beginning at 2 p.m.
