Holmes and Doyle lead HU to a victory against Detroit in Preseason WNIT

AKRON, Ohio –November 19— Saadia Doyle and Tamoria Holmes collectively had 41 out Howard's 60 points to guide HU to their first win of the season over the University of Detroit (0-3) in the Preseason WNIT finale, 60-58.

Howard (1-2) started out relentless as senior, Zykia Brown, made a three pointer to put the Lady Bison up 3-0. The score went tick for tack throughout the first period. With just seven seconds left in the first half, Howard tied the game 26-26 with an easy basket by junior, Holmes.

To tip off the second 20 minutes, the Lady Bison came out with a burst of energy, going on an 11-5 run, and improving the score to 39-31 by the first media timeout.

The Titans would not let up. They continued fighting by pressuring Howard into forced turnovers. With just 3:58 left in the ball game, Detroit was down 54-52. As time whined down to last final seconds of the ball game, the Lady Bison pulled away with the win by a short-jumper from Doyle.

In 30 minutes of play, Doyle earned her first double-double of the season recording a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. Holmes chipped in with 19 points, six assists, and five steals.

Detroit's top performers were led by Shareta Brown who finished with a double-double, 14 points and 10 boards. Chanahl Putman added 13 points, while Yar Shayok finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Competition continues as Howard travels to Columbus, Ohio to play Big Ten opponent, Ohio State on Tuesday, Nov. 21. Jump ball is slated for 7pm.
