HOWARD LADY BISON HOOPS: HOWARD V. HAMPTON

WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – January 11 – When it comes to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball, two teams consistently standout, Howard University and Hampton University. On Saturday, Jan. 12 the Lady Bison and the Lady Pirates go toe-to-toe on the Burr Gymnasium hardwood at 2:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
Howard currently boast an overall record of 7-6, 4-0 in Burr Gymnasium, 2-5 on the road and 2-0 in the MEAC. In all contest since the 2002-03 season, Hampton leads the series 18-3, which included post-season championship games.
With a victory on Saturday, Howard would not only add a win to the series, but remain undefeated at home and in the MEAC. Along with the team's possible success, would be the offensive success of senior Saadia Doyle. If the scoring leader attains 22 points, she will join the 2,000-point club.
The mighty blue and white hosts Hampton University following a 67-54 win over MEAC comrade Coppin State University on Monday, Jan. 7 in Baltimore, Md.
In their second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win of the season, MEAC Player of the Week (January 7), Saadia Doyle notched 26 points and 15 rebounds on a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe, perfect 2-of-2 from behind arc and a 9-of-17 outing from the field. Senior Kara Smith, who was also an exceptional 2-of-2 from the free-throw line, finished with 18 points, as freshman Victoria Gonzalez finished with 11 points on a 5-of-6 performance from the field and senior Cheyenne Curley-Payne notched a season-high 14 assists.
The mighty blue and white notched a season-high 92 percent from the charity stripe (12-13), while going 50 percent three-point range (7-14) and 45 percent from the field (24-53).

Scouting Hampton
• David Six in his sixth season at Hampton
• The Lady Pirates are members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
• HU is currently 11-5 overall, 2-0 in the MEAC, 3-0 at home, and 7-1 on the road
• Hampton returns to action after a 61-58 win over American on Sunday, Jan. 6
• Alyssa Bennett led with 18 points, Keiara Avant finished with a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds and Nicole Hamilton scored 12 points
• On the night, HU shot 35 percent from the field, 13 percent from behind the arc and 68 percent from the free-throw line
• The Lady Pirates average 62 ppg., while going 36 percent from the field, 22 percent from three-point range and 67 percent from the free-throw line

Lady Bison standout begun her double-double performances, on the season Doyle has:
• 21 points and 10 rebounds (DePaul)
• 12 points and 11 rebounds (Northwestern)
• 24 points and 10 rebounds (Delaware State)
• 25 points and 10 rebounds (Pepperdine)
• 26 points and 15 rebounds (Coppin State)
Consecutive Honors for Doyle
Saadia Doyle was name Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. The honor was announced on Thursday, Nov. 1.
What Have You Heard about the Herd
Along with Doyle's accolades, the Lady Bison were predicted to finish first in the MEAC this 2012-13 season.
Major News
Among 340 mid-major Division I institutions in the country, the Lady Bison ranked 12th above Richmond (Atlantic 10), Harvard (Ivy) and Central Michigan (Mid-American) on the preseason list.
