WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – January 13 – The Howard University women's basketball team continues home Mid-Eastern Athletic Conferences action on Monday, Jan. 14 with an ESPNU televised contest against Norfolk State University at 4:30 p.m. in Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C.
The Lady Bison welcome the Lady Spartans following a 50-52 loss to Hampton University on Saturday, Jan. 12 in Burr.
Howard's offensive campaign was led by senior Saadia Doyle with 14 points, while fellow Atlanta, Ga., native freshman Victoria Gonzalez added 10 points to the afternoon. Doyle also led in rebounding with six, as senior Cheyenne Curley-Payne finished with three assists and three steals.
As a team, HU shot 39 percent from the field, 33 percent from the behind the arc and 83 percent from the free-throw line.
On the season, Howard is 7-7, 4-1 at home, 2-5 on the road and 2-1 in the MEAC
Lady Bison Bites

• Fell 59-56 OT to Virginia during the WNIT in 2012

• Doyle is now eight points shy of her 2,000 point
• On the season, the Lady Bison average 56.4 points per game, 35 percent from the field, 30 percent from the long range, and 66 percent from the free-throw line

Scouting Norfolk State
• Debra Clark in her fourth season at Norfolk State
• The Lady Spartans are members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
• NSU is currently 2-12 overall, 0-3 in the MEAC, 2-2 at home, and 0-8 on the road
• Norfolk State fell to Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday, Jan. 12 80-86 in Princess Anne, Md.
• Four Lady Spartans scored in double figures; Kashay Barnes scored 25 points, Rachel Gordon finished with 17 points, Ebony Brown tallied 14 points and Recca Trice finished with 13 points
• In the afternoon loss, NSU shot 50 percent from the field, 57 percent from the three-point range and 100 percent from the free-throw line
• The Lady Spartans average 54.2 ppg., while going 34 percent from the field, 27 percent from three-point range and 65 percent from the free-throw line.
Seeing Double
Lady Bison standout begun her double-double performances, on the season Doyle has:
• 21 points and 10 rebounds (DePaul)
• 12 points and 11 rebounds (Northwestern)
• 24 points and 10 rebounds (Delaware State)
• 25 points and 10 rebounds (Pepperdine)
• 26 points and 15 rebounds (Coppin State)
Consecutive Honors for Doyle
Saadia Doyle was name Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. The honor was announced on Thursday, Nov. 1.
What Have You Heard about the Herd
Along with Doyle's accolades, the Lady Bison were predicted to finish first in the MEAC this 2012-13 season.
Major News
Among 340 mid-major Division I institutions in the country, the Lady Bison ranked 12th above Richmond (Atlantic 10), Harvard (Ivy) and Central Michigan (Mid-American) on the preseason list.
