MEAC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP HOOPS: No. 3 HOWARD v. No 1 HAMPTON

WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – March 16 – For the third consecutive year, No. 3 Howard and No. 1 Hampton go head-to-head for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Title on Saturday, March 16 at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va.
Season Highlights
• Saadia Doyle became the All-Time leading scorer in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and at Howard University on Feb. 18 against Bethune-Cookman
• Cheyenne Curley-Payne, who was named to the 2012-13 All-MEAC (3rd Team), is ranked No. 14th in the country in assists (6.4) and No. 36 in steals 2.79
• Saadia Doyle notches 2268 points and 1156 rebounds
• Cheyenne Curley-Payne tallies 178 assists thus far on the season
• Howard boast the fifth strongest defense in the country
Lady Bison Bites
• Niki Reid Geckeler is in her fourth season as head coach
• Finished second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (2011-12)
• This is the third meeting between Howard and Hampton
• Howard and Hampton battle for the title for the third consecutive year
• To reach the championship game, Howard defeated Morgan State 62-60 and North Carolina A&T 55-42
• Saadia Doyle clinched her 10th double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds, on 2-of-2 outing from behind the arc and a 7-of-8 outing from the free-throw line
• Kara Smith finished with 11 points, while fellow classmate Adelle Walton gathered nine points on a 3-of-6 performance from three-point range
• Cheyenne Curley-Payne distributed nine assists, as Nicole Deterville blocked three Lady Aggie shots
• Howard shot 70 percent from the charity stripe, 48 percent from three-point range and 33 percent from the field
• HU averages 55.6 points per game, while shooting 35 percent from the field, 30 percent from three-point range and 66 percent from the free-throw line
Scouting Hampton
• David Six is the head women's basketball coach at Hampton
• Hampton is the three-time reigning MEAC Champions
• The Lady Pirates are 27-5 on the season and 16-0 in the MEAC
• HU entered the tournament at the No. 1 seed
• Hampton reached the championship game off of 63-28 win over Delaware State and a 78-52 win over Coppin State
• HU tallied four double figure outings in their win over Coppin State, including a double double by Kiera Avant
