Howard Falls to Central Connecticut State
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard women's lacrosse team had a solid first half but couldn't hold on and fell 20-8 to Central Connecticut State Wednesday afternoon at Greene Stadium.
The Lady Bison started strong but allowed big CCSU runs in each half.
The Blue Devils got on board first and took a 3-0 lead before Desiree Cox (Hendersonville, Tenn./Lees-McRae) answered with an unassisted goal at 26:32.
The two teams traded goals over the next 15 minutes and Chasity Dailey's (Pasadena, Md./Glen Burnie H.S.) goal closed the Bison deficit to 6-4 with 8:56 remaining.
CCSU responded with a 4-0 run to end the half and the Blue Devils led 10-4 at intermission.
Howard got things going early in the second period when Ashley Lawrence (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran H.S.) and Cox scored back-to-back goals.
Betsey Vendel and Ashley Perkoski pushed the CCSU lead to 12-6 with 19:07 remaining but Ashlee Brown's (Detroit, Mich./East Detroit H.S.) and Cox's free-position goals kept the Bison in the contest.
Scoring woes and penalties caught up to HU after that, however, and the Bison went scoreless in the final 15:36.
Howard (1-8, 0-3 MEAC) travels to Jacksonville, Fla. on Saturday for a conference matchup against the Dolphins.
