Women's Lacrosse Edged 12-11 in Double Overtime

Boxscore

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Desiree Cox had a game-high six goals and Ashley Lawrence added five but it was not enough as Howard was edged by Liberty, 12-11 in a thrilling double overtime affair at Greene Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The dramatic ending thwarted what was an impressive early-game rally by the Lady Bison. Howard went on a 7-0 run midway through the first period and led 11-3 at the half.

Lawrence's goal with 29:46 left in the second period gave HU its largest lead at 12-3, but Lauren See answered for the Flames 41 seconds later and sparked a Liberty comeback. The Flames scored the next four goals to close within four points of the lead at 12-8 with 19:12 remaining.

Cox scattered back-to-back goals for Howard but the Bison were outscored 4-1 in the final five minutes of regulation. Kristin Crowley netted the game-tying goal with 14 seconds left.

Howard had a scoring chance in the extra frames for a game-winner, but Flames keeper Rebekah Leutter turned away the shot in the final seconds.

Ashlee Brown contributed three goals for the Bison and Jazzmin Drennon added two. Sonja White stopped nine shots in the loss.

HU (0-5) is off for a week before returning hosting Davidson on Saturday, March 13 at Greene Stadium.
