BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Howard defeated LIU and Houston Baptist to finish as the runner ups at the 2008 Courtyard LaGuardia Volleyball Classic.

The Bison (4-11) played back-to-back five-set matches on day two to take home runner-up honors. HU defeated the host Blackbirds 3-2 (25-19, 17-25, 19-25, 25-22, 15-11) and later overwhelmed HBU 25-22, 20-25, 25-16, 17-25, 16-14.

Earlier in the classic, Howard played tourney champs St. John's tough but fell to the Redstorm, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-19) in straight sets.

The Bison return to action on Monday with a non-conference road matchup against Georgetown at 7 pm.
