Howard Defeats Providence at NJIT Halloween Classic

NEWARK, N.J. - The Howard women's volleyball team took down Providence 3-1 (21-25, 27-25, 25-21, 25-15) at the NJIT Halloween Classic on Oct. 31-Nov. 1 in Newark, N.J. The Bison dropped contests to Bryant and tourney champion NJIT, finishing 1-2 on the weekend.

Gazelle d'Artois and Jiyana Brown contributed double-doubles in the win over the Friars. d'Artois finished with 16 kills and 10 digs while Brown added 13 kills and 11 digs.

Sophomore libero Nicole Brown had a match-high 23 digs. Elyssa Lee chipped in seven kills and nine digs.

Elizabeth Flynn had 17 kills for Providence. Kelly Krahenbuhl and Aida Cadres added 14 and 12 digs, respectively.

Against Bryant, d'Artois added 10 kills and 18 digs. Freshman Gabrielle Martin led the team in kills with 12, and Brown dug out 17 balls on the defensive end.

Setter Grace DeMichelis fell one dig and one block shy of a triple-double. The Colorado native finished with 39 set assists, nine digs and a career-high nine block assists. Taylor Johnson also added a career-high nine blocks as the Bison outswatted Bryant 26-17.

Hilary Andrews led three Bulldogs in double-digit kills with 19.

Nicole Brown had another 20+ dig game against the host Higlanders on Nov. 1. The California native finished with 22 digs, the match-high. d'Artois had a match-high 18 kills and Jiyana Brown added 10.

Renata Pandolfo's double-double of 16 kills and 11 digs paced NJIT.
