Navy Holds Off Howard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Gabrielle Martin had 13 kills and Gazelle d'Artois added 11, but Navy held off Howard 3-1 (26-24, 25-21, 17-25, 25-22) Tuesday evening in Burr Gymnasium.

Sophomore Taylor Johnson had nine kills and two blocks for HU while junior Keri Partridge added eight kills. Libero Nicole Brown led all players with a match-high 15 digs.

Freshman Jasmine King contributed 37 assists, seven digs, three blocks and two aces.

Navy (6-14) got a match-high 14 kills from Meghan Carpenter. Ndidi Ibe added 10 kills and Holly Berger dug out 10 balls.

The Lady Bison rebounded in set three after falling into a 2-0 defecit. Howard hit .312 (15-5-32) and limited Navy to a .097 attack percentage in the third stanza.

The two squads battled in a fourth set that featured nine ties and numerous lead changes. Navy began to pull away at the lead at 17-17 when blocks by Jenny Rudewicz and Maida Kalic' spurred a mini 4-0 run by the Mids.

Howard (6-19) resumes conference play on Friday against Delaware State.
