D’Artois and Montgomery Sweep MEAC Volleyball Accolades

 

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. - Howard junior Gazelle D'Artois was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the week, the conference announced on Monday. Teammate Taylor Montgomery earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

d'Artois, an outside hitter, posted 57 kills and 40 digs to lead the Lady Bison to a 2-2 mark last week. She earned all-tournament honors at the Bryant Invitational after tallying 18 kills, three blocks, three aces and 14 digs in a win over Bryant. She followed that performance with a .519 hitting percentage (15-of-27) two blocks, three aces and five digs in a non-conference win against Coppin State. For the week, D'Artois hit 25-percent from the floor and added four assists and eight aces during the four matches. 

Montgomery averaged 7.3 kills per match and posted a .386 hitting percentage (22-of-45) in three matches. Against Bryant, the middle hitter recorded 10 kills and a career-high 10 blocks. In a win over Coppin State, Montgomery posted eight kills while hitting 57-percent from the floor. She added seven blocks and one assist in the victory.  

Howard will look to continue its winning ways on Sunday when it hosts Winston-Salem State. First serve is set for 3 pm at Burr Gymnasium.
