Lady Bison Edged By Bears 3-2
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Lady Bison forced five games, but were ultimately edged by the Bears of Morgan State at Burr Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Howard splits the conference weekend with a 1-1 MEAC mark.
Morgan State (3-14, 1-1 MEAC) came out strong, defeated HU 25-17 in the first set and 25-23 in the second. The next two sets were dominated by the Bison, taking both sets 25-17 and 25-19 to force and extra set. The Bears took an early advantage and never looked back, winning the deciding game 15-11.
"There were moments of greatness, but we let them get too far," said head Coach Dawn Barnes. "In the third set, we came out with some urgency, but it was too late."
Three Bison finished with double-digit kills with Tosin Elebute leading the way with a game-best 22. Keri Partridge went 16-for-31 for a .419 kill percentage. Jiya Brown finished strong on both ends with 10 kills and nine digs. Nicole Brown and Gazelle d'Artois led the defensive effort with 15 and 10 digs. Jasmine King and d'Artois combined to assist 54 of 61 total team kills.
"Overall, the game went well," said Barnes. "They just came out with more intensity than we did."
HU is back in action on Oct. 17 at home against Hampton beginning at 3 p.m.
