RICHMOND, VA – Tonight the ball did not fall in Howard's court as the Lady Bison, now 1-15, fell to the VCU Rams (5-11) in a quick three sets at VCU's Siegel Center. The Lady Bison seemed to have lost their momentum shortly after the first few points were earned.
Set scores for the match were a disappointing 15-25, 9-25, and 10-25. The Lady Bison won the first side out which gave them the momentum to start the match. After a few rallies and rotations the Lady Bison began to dig a hole for themselves in which they began to fall.
The Rams had a big front row and put up a solid block out-blocking the Lady Bison 11 to 1. Howard could not close up at the net leaving the back row struggling to get a dig. The team ended with a total of 20 digs with four being the highest recorded total of digs for single player.
Offensively, senior outside hitter, Tosin Elebute, led the team in kills with only nine kills. Stephanie Shultis finished the match with 11 assists.
The Rams played comfortably on their home court. Kristin Boyd led her team in kills putting away 14 balls. Courtney Hott complimented her with 11 kills. Setter Cecilia Aragao finished with 32 assists. The Rams finished with 43 kills as a team and 35 digs to the Lady Bison's 20 kills and 20 digs.
HU head coach Dawn Barnes eagerly comments, "We have to come out the gates ready to play Friday. We are hammered with a few crucial injuries that showed our weaknesses tonight as a team. It is going to be a battle Friday night and we just have to come out on top."
The Lady Bison open up MEAC play at Delaware State University on Friday at 7pm.
