Blog Week 3: Alexis Skinner
Finally the agony of waiting for overrides and books is over with and the real work begins. With the second week of classes starting up and the schedule picking up, the Bison's have a lot coming up on their plate. But no doubt we are ready for it! Over the weekend we traveled to Pitt to play in our first tournament, which included a roster of competitive teams. Among those were University of Pittsburgh, Coastal Carolina and Butler. With the first game jitters out, we saw progress being made on the court although there is still much work to be done.
The practices continued to be productive as we began incorporating drills that were more game-like. The goofiness gradually died down at times as we were focused on the goal of getting better. But even that didn't stop us from playing "name that movie quote" or singing the welcome song after practice as we rushed to the café. A new drill was introduced to the serve receivers that was designed to help us with foot movement and getting to the ball. It required the passers to get the serve in between their legs in one bounce or else the servers would get a point. Needless to say it was ugly at first with balls pelting us in the stomach, but eventually we got the hang of it and were a little better at moving our feet after that.
While at Pitt there were some great games that came pretty close and others where we could've done a lot better. Overall it was a learning weekend and a huge improvement from the week before. Next weekend we will be traveling to UMBC for another tournament where we will play UMBC, JMU, Colorado, and Robert Morris.
