Gujarat Giants, Laura Wolvaardt

Gujarat Giants captain Beth Mooney has been ruled of the remainder of the Women’s Premier League 2023 following an injury in the season opener. As per the available, Mooney injured her calf in the first match against Mumbai Indians and therefore cannot take part in the tournament further. Laura Wolvaardt has replaced her in the tournament.

Mooney replaced by Wolvaardt

Laura Wolvaardt was playing the Pakistan Super League for Super Women. She has been released by the side as Sune Luus has replaced her. Wolvaardt was the top scorer South Africa in the Women’s World Cup with three half-centuries in six matches. Wolvaardt said, “I am very excited to join Gujarat Giants. This is an incredible opportunity and I am very grateful to be playing in the WPL. I’m looking forward to meeting the team and can’t wait to get going.”

All match predictions and expert opinions were in favour of Gujarat Giants initially thanks to the amazing Beth Mooney. Mooney’s absence could have hurt the team’s performance but Wolvaardt joining the squad is likely to add value to the side.

On the other hand, Mooney said in a statement, “I was really looking forward to the maiden WPL season with the Adani Gujarat Giants. But unfortunately, injuries are part and parcel of the sport and I am gutted to be missing the remainder of the season. I, however, will be keeping a close eye on the team’s performance from afar and will be rooting for them every single day. And though I will be away from the field of play for the rest of the season, I am looking forward to coming back stronger, fitter and I will definitely be hungrier next season. For now, I wish the Adani Gujarat Giants squad all the very best for the rest of the WPL season.”
